Abstract

Acute traumatic pain is a frequent challenge in out-of-hospital emergency medicine. The standard approach consist of intravenous (IV) analgesia and sedation. Locoregional anesthesia (LRA) is a potential alternative to analgosedation that remains underutilized. This article highlights the potential benefits of LRA in the prehospital setting through a clinical vignette and provides an overview of current practices. Training requirements and possible complications are discussed. The use of prehospital LRA in French-speaking Switzerland is also presented.
