Abstract

T cells in patients with systemic lupus erythematosus display multiple defects which contribute to disease pathogenesis and organ damage. Understanding the nature of the abnormalities at the cellular, biochemical, molecular and metabolic level offers opportunities to understand the origin of specific manifestations and disease complications, develop disease biomarkers, establish personalized medicine and develop effective therapeutics.
