Abstract

To explore the diagnostic significance of programmed death-1 (PD-1) expression in angioimmunoblastic T-cell lymphoma (AITL) and lymphoid variant of hypereosinophilic syndrome (L-HES).
Flow cytometry was used to detect aberrant CD3-CD4 + lymphocytes in bone marrow samples from 35 AITL and 13 L-HES patients, the level of PD-1 expression on these cells was analyzed, and the positivity rate was calculated. CD3 +CD4 + lymphocytes of healthy volunteers were utilized as normal controls, the difference in PD-1 expression between CD3 +CD4 + lymphocytes in normal controls and aberrant CD3- CD4 + lymphocytes in patients was compared.
The positive rate of PD-1 expression in CD3-CD4 + lymphocytes was significantly higher in the AITL group than that in the L-HES and normal control groups (both P <0.05), while there was no difference between L-HES group and normal control group (P >0.05). No significant difference in the positive rate of PD-1 expression between EBV- DNA + and EBV-DNA -patients in AITL group was observed (P >0.05).
The level of PD-1 expression detected by flow cytometry can help distinguish AITL from L-HES.
