Abstract
Bangladesh experienced a large-scale resurgence of measles during 2026. We investigated the genomic epidemiology of the measles virus (MeV) during this outbreak. A total of 100 suspected cases were recruited from a tertiary care hospital in Dhaka, of whom 89 tested positive for MeV by RT-PCR. Near-complete MeV genomes were recovered from 24 selected samples. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the outbreak was associated with closely related MeV sequences belonging to genotype B3. The median age of the confirmed cases was 8 months, with 61% cases younger than 9 months. Among the confirmed cases, 79% were unvaccinated.
