Abstract

Burnout in physicians and advanced practice providers (APPs) remains a priority for health systems. Existing literature has often focused on physicians. The purpose of this study was to examine gender and role differences in well-being. A single health system conducted a cross-sectional survey evaluating well-being metrics. Female physicians and APPs differed from their male colleagues on some well-being metrics. Female APPs reported more favorable outcomes compared to female physicians on some outcomes. Physicians and APPs did not significantly differ on burnout rates. These findings highlight the need to understand how gender and role uniquely contribute to well-being and performance.
