Abstract

Delirium is a common and potentially preventable complication in hospitalized older adults. Early detection requires interprofessional vigilance and caregiver involvement, as relatives are often the first to notice behavioral change. As part of the preparatory phase of an implementation project in an acute geriatric unit, this article presents a straightforward approach: educating caregivers about early signs, triggers, and practical prevention strategies. Delivered as a brief conversation, tailored to the caregiver's level of understanding and documented in the medical record, this educational intervention aims to improve caregivers' knowledge, support their involvement in early detection, and promote continuity between hospital and home. Its effects on delirium-related clinical outcomes remain to be evaluated.
