Abstract
This report outlines a strategic hybrid staffing model developed by a large hospital's Neurodiagnostics department to meet their newly mandated continuous, real-time long-term monitoring (LTM) requirements. Faced with recruitment constraints and an urgent need to transition from a limited-service model to 24/7 model with a 4:1 patient-to-technologist monitoring standard, the department implemented several operational adjustments. Included changes to department operations were staggering of existing in-house shifts for optimal overlap, adding targeted midshifts, and integrating a contracted remote monitoring vendor. The adjustments resulted in an increase in patient safety, increased total study capacity to 15 concurrent studies, while optimizing reimbursement and addressing staff burnout and resource limitations.
