Abstract
Breast calcinosis is a rare late complication of radiation therapy that can present years after treatment and pose significant reconstructive challenges. Management of radiation-induced breast calcinosis requires an approach to address both tissue damage and impaired wound healing.
We present a case of a 59-year-old female who developed breast calcinosis more than a decade following radiation. Our multistep treatment plan, which has not been previously published, involved hyperbaric oxygen (HBO₂) treatment, surgical excision, negative pressure wound therapy, and additional HBO₂ treatment. As a result, the patient's wound decreased to 95% of its size in less than two months.
This case highlights the potential utility of a staged multidisciplinary approach for managing radiation-induced breast calcinosis and supports further investigation of HBO₂ treatment as an adjunct to optimize wound healing in these complex patients.
