Abstract
Skin infections and infestations represent a significant burden on public health, accounting for a substantial proportion of consultations in primary care and community settings. This article provides a comprehensive overview of common bacterial, viral, fungal and parasitic skin conditions, covering their definitions, clinical features, recommended investigations, management principles and evidence-based treatment options. Emphasis is placed on the critical role of infection prevention and control protocols in reducing transmission, alongside the importance of patient education in minimising recurrence and safeguarding public health. The article also highlights the necessity of multidisciplinary collaboration and adherence to clinical guidelines to optimise outcomes. In the context of rising antimicrobial resistance and evolving epidemiological trends, ongoing vigilance and robust community interventions are essential for effective management and prevention of skin infections and infestations.
