Abstract

We report a quaternary inclusion complex, PPNDI²⁺@γ-CD₃, which exhibits dual solid-state photo- and vapochromic behaviours. UV-vis-NIR, ESR and DFT studies reveal that this dual responsiveness originates from photo- or chemically induced intermolecular electron transfer, generating stable PPNDI⁺˙ radicals.
