Abstract

Pediatric care pathways are characterized by the coexistence of streamlined care strategies and complex relational challenges. Establishing a therapeutic relationship requires prior theoretical knowledge and an understanding of the parental role. In these situations, which are often difficult for the child, the containing and limiting functions performed by parents are all the more necessary. In particular, these functions allow parents to provide the child with a safe space to express their emotional vulnerabilities and offer support in a potentially threatening situation. However, the ability to parent can be compromised by the child's medical condition. Healthcare providers must therefore offer parenting support as well as a nurturing and boundary-setting relationship to the child.
