Abstract

The continuous retrospective study was conducted concerning employment of graduates from the Faculty of Dentistry at Irkutsk State Medical University, who completed their studies in 2023-2025, as of early 2026. The percentage of graduates working in their specialty remained stable during analyzed period, ranging between 45%-52%. The redistribution of young specialists from public to private sector was revealed. So, by 2025, the number of employed in public medical organizations decreased by 26.1%, while employment in private sector increased by 4.8%. This resulted in shifting in dominant labor market segment from public (43.6%) to private sector (56.4%). Among employed graduates, proportion of those who underwent targeted training doubled (reaching 25.6%), while proportion of state-funded graduates decreased (by 43.8%). The public sector is predominantly staffed with general dentists, therapeutic dentists and pediatric dentists. In contrast, private sector has significantly higher representation of dental surgeons and orthopedists. Among residents admitted to state-funded and targeted positions, therapeutic and pediatric dentists dominate, whereas the commercial segment is predominantly chosen by future surgeons and orthopedists. The obtained data substantiate necessity of enhanced cooperation between universities, regional health authorities and employers in the context of new legislation on targeted education.
