Abstract

Immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) is an acquired autoimmune bleeding disorder characterized by isolated thrombocytopenia. With the accelerating aging of the global population, the incidence of ITP among older adults (≥60 years) is increasing, and this population exhibits distinct epidemiological features, pathogenic mechanisms, and clinical management needs. To standardize the diagnosis and management of ITP in older adults in China, the Platelet Group of the Hematology Subcommittee of the Chinese Geriatric Society and the Hematology Subcommittee of the China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care jointly established an expert consensus committee on ITP in older adults. This consensus was developed to integrate evidence-based medical data from the literature with clinical practice experience, provide practical recommendations for standardized diagnosis and treatment of geriatric ITP, and promote the conduct of future clinical research specifically targeting this population.
