Abstract

The polypyridyl ligand 2,9-di(pyrid-2-yl)-1,10-phenanthroline (DPP) functions as a turn-on sensor for PFOA over PFOS in water with a detection limit of 70 ppb. Single-crystal analysis reveals a PFOA-water-DPP hydrogen-bond network that promotes DPP excimer emission enabling selective PFAS sensing.
