Abstract

A novel copper-catalyzed cis-addition of isocyanides to internal alkynes is reported. This transformation enables the selective construction of two distinct classes of synthetically valuable N-heterocycles, 2-amino-5-cyanopyrroles and 5-iminopyrrolones, in high to excellent yields. The protocol exhibits a remarkably broad substrate scope, excellent functional-group tolerance, and operational simplicity, thus providing a versatile and practical synthetic platform for the rapid assembly of these privileged heterocyclic scaffolds.
