Abstract

In the debate and clinical decision-making surrounding medically assisted dying, two conceptions of dignity-intrinsic and subjective-are often pitted against one another to defend opposing positions. In the context of geriatric practice, and in order to avoid this unproductive dichotomy, a multidimensional model of dignity is proposed here. It calls for the integration of the relational dimension and highlights the congruence of this model with an ethics of care.
