Abstract
Mendoza has a medium-high breast cancer mortality rate, the fifth highest in Argentina. Awareness and prevention are essential to reduce its mortality, both closely linked to knowledge. Primary prevention aims to avoid risk factors, while secondary prevention focuses on early detection.
This study assessed the level of knowledge about breast cancer and its preventive strategies through a survey conducted via a Google Form, addressed to women over 18 years of age, answered by 760 women.
Only 37.4% identified mammography as the most effective detection method. A total of 24.8% reported not knowing the risk factors, and only 25.8% mentioned hereditary causes. Symptoms such as skin retraction or dimpling were recognized by 34.7% of participants.
The results show gaps in knowledge regarding prevention, highlighting the need to strengthen education and awareness in Mendoza.
