Abstract
Point-of-care ultrasound (PoCUS) has fundamentally transformed clinical practice from comprehensive, organ-based imaging into a rapid, goal-directed bedside tool. The development of standardized protocols - such as focused assessment with sonography for trauma, rapid ultrasound for shock and hypotension, and bedside lung ultrasound in emergency - along with real-time procedural guidance, has established PoCUS as an essential competency in critical care and emergency medicine. Currently, technological advancements have miniaturized ultrasound devices, dismantling geographical barriers and facilitating decentralized healthcare models. In the emergency department (ED), the early integration of PoCUS significantly reduces the ED length of stay and optimizes resource utilization, whereas its application continues to expand into general inpatient and community care. Looking forward, the democratization of medical education and the convergence of wireless technology with artificial intelligence will further minimize operator dependence. As its diagnostic value is firmly established, future research must pivot toward quantifying patient-centered outcomes, such as mortality and hospital readmission rates, solidifying PoCUS as an indispensable pillar of modern medicine.
