Abstract

Zika virus (ZIKV) is primarily transmitted by Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus. The Zika epidemics in China were primarily imported cases.
This study documents the first laboratory-confirmed imported ZIKV case in Hainan Province, China. Phylogenetic analysis identified the Asian lineage, sharing 98.79% homology with a Thai strain.
This investigation highlighted the need to strengthen the patriotic health campaign, reducing local mosquito-borne transmission risk at the source. Multi-pathogen (dengue/chikungunya/Zika) testing of a single sample by Haikou Customs enabled Zika detection, while timely cross-department notification and coordinated response effectively enhanced outbreak containment.
