Abstract
To examine the association between parental and adolescent nutrition label use and differences by parental label-use pattern, age group, and data-collection period.
Cross-sectional secondary analysis of pooled Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey data from 2016-2018, 2019-2021, and 2022-2024.
South Korea.
Adolescents aged 12-18 years with linked parent data (N = 2,879). Data were weighted to provide nationally representative estimates.
Adolescent nutrition label use; parental nutrition label use was the primary exposure.
Survey-weighted logistic regression estimated associations overall and by parental label-use pattern, age group, and survey cycle, adjusting for age, sex, and household characteristics.
Parental nutrition label use was associated with adolescent label use (adjusted odds ratio: 1.31; 95% CI: 1.09-1.58). Associations were observed for father-only, mother-only, and both-parent use, with the strongest association being for both-parent use (adjusted odds ratio: 1.84; 95% CI: 1.29-2.64). The association was significant at ages 12-15 years but not at 16-18 years; age-group interaction was not significant. Cycle-specific adjusted estimates were positive but not always significant.
Parental nutrition label use was associated with adolescent label use. Family inclusive nutrition education may support adolescent label use.
