Abstract

Tissue resident memory cells (Trm-cells) function as both benign and pathogenic memory cells. Benign Trm-cells play an important role in adaptive immunity by protecting against external pathogens, whereas pathogenic Trm-cells can induce relapses in several chronic skin diseases, including psoriasis. Early and intensive treatment with biologic therapy can lead to effective, long-term disease control by limiting local memory formation in the skin. However, this review finds it important not to compromise the beneficial role of Trm-cells in adaptive immunity when pursuing long-term treatment strategies.
