Abstract

Being a first-time mother is a new transition for a woman, and she must adapt to various physiological, psychological and relational factors that interact with one another. The transition can make the woman more emotionally vulnerable and at an increased risk of developing post-partum depression (PPD). This review is based on a systematic literature search and presents several risk factors associated with PPD in primiparous women. Hopefully, knowledge about risk factors can help identify women who might be at risk to ensure that early interventions can be initiated and thereby prevent PPD.
