Abstract
Simulation-based training is now an essential element of anesthesiology education, mandated by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education and incorporated into Maintenance of Certification in Anesthesia requirements. This review provides a comprehensive examination of simulation, ranging from high-fidelity manikins to emerging virtual reality and artificial intelligence technologies. It explores the diverse modalities used to teach technical and non-technical skills, including Crisis Resource Management and interprofessional teamwork. Furthermore, the article addresses assessment frameworks, such as objective structured clinical examinations, and best practices for debriefing and faculty development. Ultimately, simulation serves to bridge the gap between knowledge and clinical practice.
