Abstract

Low mobility is common during acute care hospitalization and is associated with functional decline, falls, institutionalization, and excess mortality in older adults. Although interventions aimed at increasing in-hospital mobility have demonstrated their effectiveness under research conditions, their application in routine clinical practice remains limited due to reliance on additional resources that are unavailable in everyday clinical settings and insufficient consideration of barriers and facilitators. The INTOMOB project proposes an intervention targeting patients, medical and nursing staff, and the hospital environment, which does not require resources that are unavailable in routine practice. Following a successful pilot study, a multicenter, randomized, controlled trial was conducted in Switzerland with 383 patients, whose results will be published soon.
