Abstract

The article presents the problem of demographic resilience of rural areas in the context of labor migration. The paper substantiates the need to move from describing rural depopulation, aging, and migration outflow to analyzing the adaptive capabilities of rural territorial systems, households, and communities. The concept of demographic resilience is considered as an interdisciplinary analytical category that allows linking demographic reproduction, labor mobility, human capital, local labor markets, social networks, and institutional conditions of rural development. The article is staged in nature and is aimed at shaping the research agenda. Promising areas of further research are proposed, including the development of rural typologies, the operationalization of demographic resistance indicators, a longitudinal analysis of the effects of labor migration, and the study of microlevel adaptation practices.
