Abstract

This study examines whether adolescent bullying victimisation is a precursor to adult intimate partner violence victimisation and, if so, whether specific individual, family, and peer/school factors protect against this form of revictimisation. Nationally representative Australian data showed that women bullied during adolescence (aged 14-15) had 1.87 times higher odds of being victimised by an intimate partner (aged 18-19). Additionally, an adjusted logistical regression revealed that school belonging decreased the odds of revictimisation. Overall, this study shows that there is a relationship between the two forms of victimisation and that by reducing school bullying, IPV victimisation should decrease.
