Abstract
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of tislelizumab combined with nab-paclitaxel plus nedaplatin for advanced esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC), and its effects on serum tumor markers and inflammatory cytokines.
A total of 228 advanced ESCC patients were retrospectively enrolled and divided into an observation group (tislelizumab combined with nab-paclitaxel plus nedaplatin, n=114) and a control group (chemotherapy alone: nab-paclitaxel plus nedaplatin, n=114). Related serological indicators, T lymphocyte subsets, quality of life, short-term efficacy, pathological response, survival outcomes and adverse reactions were compared. Independent prognostic factors were analyzed via univariate and multivariate Cox regression.
After treatment, both groups exhibited decreased levels of tumor markers, inflammatory cytokines, soluble PD-1, PD-L1, VEGF and MMP-9, with lower levels in the observation group (all P<0.05). The observation group had improved immune function, higher SF-36 scores, as well as higher objective response rate, disease control rate, and pathological response indexes (all P<0.05). Moreover, patients in the observation group had longer progression-free survival and overall survival (both P<0.05). Advanced TNM stage was an adverse prognostic factor, while combined immunochemotherapy reduced mortality risk.
Tislelizumab plus the dual chemotherapy regimen can effectively reduce serum tumor markers and alleviate tumor-related inflammation, improve immune status, quality of life and survival of patients with advanced ESCC with acceptable safety, supporting its potential for broader clinical application.
