Abstract

Euphorbia hirta L. has been traditionally used for the treatment of respiratory disorders, liver ailments, and metabolic disorders. The GC-MS analysis of the methanolic extract of E. hirta identified 33 bioactive compounds. Arecoline administration in mice elevated oxidative and nitrosative stress and liver biomarker enzymes. Treatment with the methanolic extract of E. hirta at doses of 500 mg/kg and 250 mg/kg restored elevated oxidative and nitrosative stress and liver biomarker enzymes in a dose-dependent manner. In silico, PASS analysis predicted the potential bioactivity of phytoconstituents. Molecular docking revealed that various phytocompounds exhibited strong binding affinity with potential antioxidant and hepatoprotective receptors and showed desirable ADME/Tox profiles. The in vivo and in silico studies support the potential of the methanolic extract of E. hirta for hepatoprotection.
