Abstract

Critically ill patients often suffer from alterations in body temperature either from disease, injury, exposure, or therapeutic interventions. Therefore, nurses must use evidence to guide decisions in choosing the most appropriate thermometer, route, and technique that accurately and consistently reflects core body temperature. This article will review the evidence for measuring body temperature for critically ill patients. Practical recommendations for measuring body temperature will follow.
