Abstract
This study examined the dynamics of serum amyloid A (SAA) levels in the blood, brain, and liver over time using a mouse model of focal cerebral ischemia induced by occlusion of the middle cerebral artery (MCA) for 4 h followed by reperfusion. Blood SAA concentrations increased transiently after cerebral infarction, coinciding with changes in brain and liver SAA gene expression and protein levels. SAA concentrations in the brain, liver, and blood increased at similar time points after cerebral infarction, suggesting that SAA may serve as an important indicator of the associated pathological condition.
