Abstract
The literature review is saturated with positive tones about the use of AI not only in health care but also in all aspects of our daily lives as well. The positivity range is extensive, ranging from increased accuracy, efficiency, productivity, profitability to creativity, equity, and advancement. Yet, the public is circumspect with continual exposure to news about cybersecurity threats or attacks, identity theft, violations of privacy, and challenges of establishing trust in their daily encounters with technology amidst prevalence of deep fakes, voice cloning, and AI-generated images or videos of people. A meta-synthesis of AI-related literature inclusive of expert panels is examined as an exploratory search for AI applicability and use in the health care landscape. The purpose of this article is to demystify AI highlighting areas of its use in health care, ways for clinicians specifically, care managers to bridge that divide and ascertain key practice standards with emphasis on its ethical use in health care. The settings using AI that were considered in this article include Health plans, Hospitals, medical practices or clinics, and Hospitals' Revenue Cycle Management (RCM). Implications and recommendations for case management engagement in AI are addressed relative to the standards of practice (SOPs).
