Abstract
The International Federation of Gynecology and Obstetrics (FIGO) staging system for cervical carcinoma provides a globally accepted framework that guides treatment decisions and prognosticates disease. The 2018 update incorporates imaging and pathologic findings into the schema, reflecting advances in diagnostic modalities and improving stage accuracy. Despite these improvements, significant information gaps remain, and assigning an accurate FIGO stage may be challenging in several situations faced by pathologists. This article uses real world case examples for various clinical situations and presentations of cervical carcinoma, focusing on a practical approach and providing strategies to ensure accurate and clinically relevant FIGO stage designation.
