Abstract

The "2025 American Thyroid Association management guidelines for adult patients with differentiated thyroid cancer" released in 2025 proposed several new recommendations regarding the assessment of thyroid nodules, surgical treatment options for differentiated thyroid cancer, and postoperative management. However, some of the recommendations were based on relatively low-level evidence and failed to fully reflect the epidemiological characteristics, the distribution of medical resources, and clinical practice variations of thyroid cancer in China. Therefore, the General Surgery Branch of China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care and other academic organizations, focusing on seven surgical management issues including the indications for fine-needle aspiration biopsy of thyroid nodules, whether low-risk papillary thyroid cancer can be selected for active surveillance, the indications for unilateral thyroid lobectomy, prophylactic central compartment lymph node dissection, whether papillary thyroid cancer can be treated with ablation therapy, the placement of drainage tubes after thyroid cancer surgery, and targets for thyroid stimulating hormone suppression therapy, based on the latest international and domestic evidence-based medicine evidence and Chinese clinical practice, organized experts in relevant fields to conduct multiple rounds of discussion and voting, thereby developing this research report. It follows the principles of individualization and standardization, aiming to provide a reference for maximizing patient benefit.
