Abstract
Sleep staging is an important tool to diagnose sleep disorders but can be a time-intensive process. The development of artificial intelligence-based automated sleep staging programs can alleviate barriers to scoring by improving efficiency and achieving standardized results. However, careful implementation of these programs is needed to ensure appropriate use. Artificial intelligence models can generate unreliable clinical results if models are not trained on heterogenous data that represent both common and infrequent sleep disorders. It is essential to recognize the limitations of artificial intelligence-based scoring prior to integration in clinical workflows to promote meaningful improvements in care delivery.
